About Me

My design back ground is in Textiles and Surface Pattern Design but it was during my MA in Multi Disciplinary Print Making at U.W.E that I was introduced to the Art of Enamelling. During this time i began experimenting with contemporary enamelling techniques incorporating various print procedures. Soon after completing my Masters I had a little girl called Eve Florence, so things were put on hold for a while...well 3 years to be precise. Last year i was awarded an Arts Council of Wales Project grant which has enabled me to further investigate this medium. I am now the proud owner of a lovely enamel kiln. The results and experiments of which will be posted on this blog!

Back to blogger..

I have decided to return to Blogger, as well as maintaining my website Wordpress blog. But to separate them, keeping my blogger posts for work in progress and thoughts in time. Therefore, I will use this space to record my creative exploration, experiments and ideas, as they unfold. I have recently been motivated to explore wet enamel techniques, returning to more marking and drawing themes. Since my Arts Council of Wales Research and Development grant I have decided to allow myself time to rediscover mark making and drawing into enamel. I haven't used wet process enamel before, and the experience is totally different to powdered enamel. It is far more responsive to mark making and drawing than the powder and feels similar to painting and drawing. It has allowed me to become far more expressive and experimental with this medium and not too hung up on the end result. My recent work has explored mark making in response to an abstracted landscape, looking in particular at the horizon lines, the abstracted pattern and composition of the landscape, silhouette and textural depth. I have admired the beautiful markings on pebbles. I love the quality of lines, the subtlety and variation of tension and thickness. I suppose its similar to my interest in the quality of line and tension in hand writing but instead on a hard, solid object. Like a lot of people, I have always collected pebbles on visits to the beach. A little reminder of a day and place, that can be taken home with you and put in the garden. Here are a few images so far.
